AP* from A to Z Curriculum

Applied Practice is pleased to announce our recent acquisition of the AP* from A to Z curriculum, which was created and distributed by Athena Publishing from 2003 to 2011.  This curriculum includes five binders of teaching notes, lessons, activities, and assignments for a complete middle school Pre-AP through high school AP English program.

Included in this series are the following courses:

Foundations of Pre-AP* for middle schools or 9th grade classrooms

Combined Editions Parts I & II for 9-10 grade Pre-AP classrooms (or 11-12 grade courses that combine Language and Literature instruction)

Language Edition for AP*/IB/Honors Language and Composition courses

Literature Edition for AP*/IB/Honors Literature and Composition courses

AP* from A to Z: Foundations of Pre-AP*

This 336-page binder includes 10 units created specifically for beginner Pre-AP* English courses and includes:

  • Unit  1: Using Verbs Effectively
  • Unit  2: Writing Strong Sentences
  • Unit  3: Tone
  • Unit  4: Writing the Paragraph
  • Unit  5: Genres
  • Unit  6: The Short Story
  • Unit  7: Poetry
  • Unit  8: Drama
  • Unit  9: Nonfiction
  • Unit 10: Terminology

Each unit includes teacher notes and a lesson, along with assignments and activities appropriate for class work, homework, and group work.  Student pages are reproducible.

The Foundations of Pre-AP* course binder will be discontinued in the spring of 2012 and replaced with an updated series from Applied Practice, Ltd. based on this curriculum.

AP* from A to Z: Pre-AP* Combined Editions Part I and Part II

These binders include teaching units created specifically for Pre-AP* English courses that address both fiction and nonfiction genre and analysis.  When taught consecutively over two grade levels, students will learn to identify and analyze basic to advanced elements of these genres, and to develop their own voice in writing.

AP* from A to Z Pre-AP* Combined Editions Part 1 and Part 2 binders will be discontinued on or about December 31, 2011 and replaced with an updated series from Applied Practice, Ltd. based on this curriculum.

This 543-page binder guides students to an understanding of rhetorical devices in all nonfiction genres and fosters the development of personal style in analytical writing.   Suggested for AP*/IB/Honors Language courses, this study curriculum:

  • reviews nonfiction rhetorical devices (as taught in Combined Edition Part 1)
  • focuses on advanced nonfiction analysis skills
  • includes synthesis and argumentation practice materials
  • utilizes primarily nonfiction passages for instruction and examples
The Language Edition course binder will be discontinued in the spring of 2012 and replaced with an updated series from Applied Practice, Ltd. based on this curriculum.

This 545-page binder guides students to an understanding of stylistic elements in all fiction genres and fosters the development of personal style in analytical writing.   Suggested for AP*/IB/Honors Literature courses, this study curriculum:

  • reviews fiction stylistic elements (as taught in Combined Edition Part 1)
  • focuses on advanced fiction analysis skills
  • utilizes primarily fiction passages for instruction and examples
The Literature Edition course binder will be discontinued in the spring of 2012 and replaced with an updated series from Applied Practice, Ltd. based on this curriculum.
