Essential Skills Plus is a new product line designed for both the regular and advanced classrooms. As your students read the literary works covered in your curriculum, they will have the opportunity to practice and to develop the skills necessary for critical reading and fluent writing. These are the skills covered on standardized tests, whether state proficiency, advanced placement, or college entrance exams. Regular practice is critical for students to develop and demonstrate competence in these skills on such standardized tests, but more importantly, these materials provide students with opportunities to improve as readers and writers.

Essential Skills Plus workbooks consist of the following components:

• 6 sets of MC and open-ended reading questions, each set covering a passage from the literary work PLUS additional MC questions over a reading-for-information piece, a visual representation, a Cloze reading passage, or an expository essay.
• 4 writing practices thematically related to the literary work. editing, graphic organizers, grammar and usage.
• 7 essay prompts based on the literary work. Skills include literary analysis and persuasive writing.
• 1 set of Pre-AP/AP* style questions over a passage from the literary work.
• 1 set of NMSQT/PSAT/SAT* style questions over a passage from the literary work.
• Answer keys and answer explanations, as well as suggested responses for open-ended questions.
• Skill correlations for the reading and writing sections.

These workbooks are available online for purchase for a teacher's individual classroom use as hard-copy, spiral-bound resource guides.
