Opportunities for Writers

Applied Practice hires English, Science, and Social Studies curriculum writers on a contract basis as needed for our curriculum development. When these assignments become available, they are excellent opportunities for highly-qualified, active and retired educators desiring a part-time income.

Applied Practice Curriculum Writers are responsible for writing test-prep booklets in a variety of standardized test formats. Familiarity with one or more of the following test formats is a must: Advanced Placement, Scholastic Aptitude, ACT, TAKS, FCAT, CAHSEE, OGT, SOL, or PSSA. Our mission is to improve the efficiency of English, Social Studies, and Science teachers by providing supplemental test-prep materials that cover content specific to a literary work or teaching unit. Other types of supplemental teaching aids are also occasionally added to our product catalog.

Highly-qualified writers may also be contracted for book editing. Applied Practice Editors are responsible for reviewing book drafts for content, clarity, readability, and adherence to format; providing feedback to writers; and strengthening content when necessary. Editors must have excellent written communication skills and subject knowledge.

All successful candidates will have a background in classroom teaching and possess excellent writing skills, grasp of subject matter, and knowledge of test format(s). Prior writing and/or editing experience is desirable. Proficiency in common computer application programs (e-mail, Word, Excel, etc.) is a must.

Writers and editors are hired on a contract basis only. Per-book contracts are negotiated based upon prior experience and demonstrated ability. No benefits are provided.

If you would like to be considered for one of these assignments, please e-mail your resume with cover letter to info@appliedpractice.com. Please indicate in your cover letter how you became aware of our company and/or products, and include a list of published books and collaborations. Also indicate the degree to which you are familiar with our published test formats.
