Applied Practice in AP* Social Studies
In today's exam-driven environment, teaching a core Social Studies curriculum has never been more challenging. Teachers want to help students appreciate the relevance of history and discover the fascination that can arise from the rise of a civilization. Meanwhile, both teachers and school administrators are under increasing pressure to improve standardized test scores. Given the limits of the normal school day, who has the time to design classroom plans to satisfy both goals?
Now, with the help of Applied Practice integrated test preparation/curriculum materials, both objectives can be accomplished without sacrifice. Applied Practice supplementary teaching workbooks are created by history teachers for history teachers, allowing standardized test preparation to be woven into stimulating classroom instruction.
These workbooks are not just typical mock AP-style tests. Although the questions are modeled after the format of questions found on the College Board AP Social Studies exams, the content of each workbook covers specific topics and subtopics typically included in an honors or AP-level course curriculum and corresponding to the most widely-used textbooks. No other publisher offers a comparable, integrated solution.
Each Social Studies resource guide corresponds to a unit of study commonly included in the AP U.S. History or AP World History curriculum. As students study the various historical periods, they will have the opportunity to practice with AP*-formatted questions.
Additionally, all Applied Practice Resource Guides include invaluable aids for teachers. The Teaching Strategies will help both new and experienced instructors incorporate fresh teaching methods into their course utilizing the Applied Practice materials. The multiple-choice answer explanations offer easy-to-share insight that can be referenced as each practice is reviewed and analyzed in class. A scoring rubric will guide teachers in assessing student responses to the free-response questions.
Applied Practice publications are easy to use. Even inexperienced teachers can effectively prepare students for testing, while enabling students to grasp core knowledge. With routine inclusion of Applied Practice student practices into daily lesson plans, students gain proficiency in test-taking skills while mastering the content of the curriculum and teachers will be empowered with rich, in-class testing materials that provide for early formative assessment of their students' strengths and deficiencies.
Sample pages from most workbooks are available online by clicking on the book icon next to any product title. Sample pages are provided solely for the educators' use in prescreening classroom materials. Each sample packet includes a brief sampling of the questions and teacher resources; however, answer keys and answer explanations are not provided.
